Moth Balls
Lurking deep within a labyrinthine network of tunnels and caves lies a twisted, but brilliant, evil genius. Fortunately this isn't Tora Bora, it's Edinburgh. And I've not pitched up to see Osama bin Laden jabber on about how posters of Leela on the walls of his CIA safe house in Skegness got him through many a dark night in the late 1970's. I missed that one, but managed to make it to see Toby Hadoke's one man show, Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf.
It's quite a touching story about his own journey with the Doctor that manages to be down to Earth, solidly rooted in family life, without being too domestic and mundane, and genuinely laugh out loud funny. My other half who, let's face facts here, couldn't be considered remotely a Doctor Who fan thoroughly enjoyed it. And you don't need to have graduated with joint honours in Nimon Husbandry and Sutekh Fellating in order to get a kick out of this. Just about the only thing missing was a knowing gag involving Lepidoptera, moth balls and The Web Planet. Other than that, it was perfect.
The next day, my other half and I were walking up the Royal Mile when she spotted Toby handing out flyers, so I popped over to say how much I enjoyed the show. I'm afraid that had I been by myself, I'd have completely missed him, given that I spent most of my time on the Royal Mile staring at towering mound of women in torn clothing.
Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf, is on at the Smirnoff Baby Belly at 1945, from Aug 3 to 27 (not including Aug 13). Go and see it, and I defy anyone not to come out of it feeling uplifted by the experience and whistling Mr Blue Sky...

I love how wonderfully anal Toby Kadoke's site for that show is. He could probably out-fan about half of Outpost Gallifrey. :)

I am going to see him, if I can get tickets, but which day were you on the Mile? I might have seen you.

I went to see this with a couple of other local group people last night. Great stuff and one of our number managed to spot a mistake and tell Toby. Unfortunately it was about insect taxonomy (moths are hymenoptera not lepidoptera) rather than Doctor Who as Mr. Toby sure does know his stuff. He's also right about the social impact of the show as well, I'm now convinced that the Daily Mail should be blaiming the disintegration of "british society" on the hiatus.
