BSG and DW

It's getting late and I may be hallucinating, but I believe that season 2/27 has been confirmed for transmission on the US Sci-fi channel for the end of September.  Even more strikingly,it will run alongside the new series of BSG in the old Stargate slot!

The merits of BSG and DW - sometimes BSG vs DW - have been discussed quite often on this blog over the last year.  Interesting that the US sci-fi watching public will be able to make a very direct comparison week after week.

It's a little bit like comparing Newsround with Newsnight, if that's any help...

Ooh get back in the knife drawer!

It hasn't been confirmed, but there's a lot of gossip that will be the case. We'll see soon enough.

It is confirmed. Friday 29th September. It's in the schedules. BSG starts the following week.

Scifi's really getting their act together. Add this to the fact that Eureka's really not that bad, and they just picked up the rights to Dead Like Me(if you haven't seen this show WATCH IT!!), I think they're finally making up for axing Farscape..

Lovely. Now I won't have long to wait before I can chat with my recently-converted-and-Eccleston-loving American friend about what kind of Doctor Tennant is, how much of a letdown New Earth is, how irritating the Doctor and Rose's relationship is at times, who Sarah Jane and that little robot dog are...

Can't wait. (Seriously, I can't.)

Do they get to start with The Christmas Invasion then, or leap straight into New Earth?

That's a matter of frenzied conjecture at the moment, as the only thing confirmed is that Season 2 starts on the 29th with a two hour slot. That could mean either a heavily cut Christmas invasion and New Earth, a very padded out Christmas Invasion over two hours with New Earth the following week, or New Earth and Tooth and Claw with CI omitted completely. I'm sure this will be confirmed soon.

S2 would make no sense without starting with TCI, given that it introduces the concept of Torchwood and that the events of the story are referred to in School Reunion, Love & Monsters and Doomsday ('Who's the President now?' 'A woman called Harriet Jones.' 'I'd keep an eye on her.')just off the top of my head.

No argument on that score from me. I was just summarising the conjecture. I suspect they'll edit CI to fit - it could probably stand it after all!

It could be they're going to repeat the last two episodes of the previous season to help remind viewers why the lead actor has suddenly changed before they air The Christmas Invasion.

No - the two hour slot I'm talking about is definitely for two new episodes - they are repeating episodes from series 1 before that.

Latest news via OG is that the Christmas Invasion is being omitted and they're starting with New Earth/Tooth and Claw. This has caused much outrage.

Oh wot?

It sounds more they're timing the season so that The Christmas Invasion will be played at the end, at, er, Christmas. Just fancy that!

Funnier things have happened with the Sci-Fi channel. They refused to play Firefly's first episode until the end as well!

If I recall correctly, Firefly was an exception, with the original airdates having the pilot episode aired much later in the series, but chronologically taking place at the beginning. tv.com even has the pilot listed as episodes 11-12, which was a severe foulup on Fox's part, I believe, and lines up as the final three episodes(13-15) were never aired.

So yeah, as much as I slate Sci-fi, Firefly's air-order wasn't their fault, unless you count poor research into the correct continuity.
