Twenty Questions
Well, that's that then. It's time for some reflection...
There's only one rule: you can only give one answer. No top 3s please. And don't even try the "I would have voted for XXX but XXX wins through" etc.

1. Favourite episode:
Dalek - despite all the finale dalek guff I still found it moving. "They torture me" just stunned me at the time, not to mention the Doctor's "Oh Rose, they're all dead!"
2. Least favourite episode:
The Long Game - despite all the finale guff, it was still pointless, unimaginative and shapelss. No good lines, nothing special and a giant and as-yet-unexplained poo monster on the ceiling.
3. Favourite supporting actor (male):
John Barrowman. Where the hell did he come from? His screaming at the guards in "Bad Wolf" was shiver-worthy.
4. Favourite supporting actor (female):
Agh, name-block. The girl in Empty/Dances. Nancy? Very good, very motherly.
5. Least favourite supporting actor:
Simon Pegg. A fairly obvious part and he brought nothing interesting to it.
6. Best line of Doctor dialogue:
"Fantastic!" of course
7. Best line of dialogue (non-Doctor):
"You really don't want to know"
8. Worst line of dialogue (anyone):
The massive exposition dump at the start of "Boomtown"
9. Best scene or sequence:
The Dalek-in-the-sun scene.
10. Best singular image from series:
The regeneration. It was so completely imaginative and utterly unlike *any* speculation I'd seen, or any previous regeneration and yet worked beautifully.
11. Funniest moment or dialogue:
Andrew Marr bitching about the sugar minister.
12. Scariest moment:
OH god, why remind me? Richard Wilson going gasmask. I nearly threw up.
13: Saddest moment:
"Are you fright-ened, Rose-Tyler?" I couldn't *see*
14. Bit that made the least sense or you wished they'd cut:
The "Bad Wolf" thing was overused and under-thought-out.
15. Best special effect:
The Blitz.
16. Worst special effect:
The running Slitheen. Dudes in rubber suits would have looked better.
17. Favourite director:
Joe Ahearne
18. Favourite writer:
Rob Shearsmith
19. Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series:
Best: throw money at it
Worst: What's wrong with a Scottish accent? (OK< I can't prove it's BBC interference, but I'm pretty suspicious)
20. Sum up the last 13 weeks in less than 25 words:

5. Least favourite supporting actor: DAVID VERREY
6. Best line of Doctor dialogue: 'If you wanna remember me, have a great life Rose. Have a fantastic life.'
7. Best line of dialogue (non-Doctor): Rose to Nancy 'Dont' tell anyone, but the Germans don't win. You win.'
8. Worst line of dialogue (anyone): Another one for 'I'm shaking my booty' - could be the 'not the mind probe' or 'nuzzink in ze vorld' of Doctor Who 2.0
9. Best scene or sequence: The regeneration.
10. Best singular image from series: All the patients sitting bolt upright after Doctor Constantine hits his walking stick against the waste bin.
11. Funniest moment or dialogue: The Doctor's 'Down boy!' to Charles Dickens when he asks what he and Rose do inside the TARDIS.
12. Scariest moment: 'I watched it happen. I MADE it happen!'. No really. This is the Doctor as out-of-control as he's ever been, capable of anything.
13: Saddest moment: The regeneration.
14. Bit that made the least sense or you wished they'd cut: The Slitheen farting.
15. Best special effect: The Big Ben crash. Interesting to note the BBC have really got some mileage out of this particular money shot, as, counting previews and reprises, it featured in no less than FOUR episodes!
16. Worst special effect: What else? The wheelie bin.
17. Favourite director: Joe Ahearne
18. Favourite writer: Paul Cornell
19. Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series: The publicity drive has been nothing less than astounding. Couldn't ask for more (although the spoiler previews could have been more tactfully handled). The way Auntie has pumped this crazy old show, which it used to practically bury towards the end of it's original run, into blockbuster, event TV has been hugely commendable. The worst thing was the way they mis-handled Eccleston's departure and the announcement of it. This not only spoilered an ending planned as a complete shock, but has seemingly soured Eccleston on the experience (re. his comments on the Eamonn Holmes radio show last week) and maybe ensured that he won't have any involvement in any future Doctor Who projects (be they audio plays, conventions or interview contributions to DVDs or documentaries). And that would be a shame.
20. Sum up the last 13 weeks in less than 25 words:
The best Doctor Who series ever (in descending order - 1(or 27 if you must), 13,14,26,19,7,12)
Posted by: togmeister | Jun 18, 2005 at 23:20
Favourite Episode: The Parting of the Ways (Better then anyone could have expected)
Least Favourite Episode: The Long Game (Despite seemingly everyone praisingit, I just thought it was weak)
Favourite supporting actor (male): John Barrowman ('Captain' Jack Harkness)
Favourite supporting actor (female): Billie Piper, or if that's just stating the obvious, then Florence Hoath (Nancy)
Least favourite supporting actor: Thw woman playing Rose's mother (She just got on my nerves most of the time)
Best line of Doctor dialogue: "Just this once... everybody lives!" (The Doctor Dances)
Best line of dialogue (non-Doctor): "There is a war on... is it possible you miscounted?" (Doctor Constantine, The Doctor Dances)
Worst line of dialogue (anyone): If I may, I'd like to include the whole farting sequence from 'Aliens In London', where the lines "I'm shaking my booty" and "I mean, that's hair-raising. Look!" appear. Simply dreadful. (Sorry to remind you all of it!)
Best scene or sequence: It's a tie between the Doctor's reaction to Rose being blasted in 'Bad Wolf' and his regeneration sequence in 'The Parting of the Ways'.
Best singular image from series: THAT Dalek fleet.
Funniest moment or dialogue: Rose's reaction to the Aliens in 'The End of the World'.
Scariest moment: Doctor Constantine's "Are you my mummy?" moment.
Saddest moment: The Doctor sending Rose away in the TARDIS in 'The Parting of the Ways'. The look on his face says it all.
Bit that made the least sense or you wished they'd cut: The Slitheen. Weakest aliens in the series (but even so, compared to most Sci Fi programs they're still pretty good.)
Best special effect: The gas-mask people. Oh, and the TARDIS appearing/disappearing.
Worst special effect: The Jagrafess... ah, whatever. It's a big blob on the ceiling.
Favourite director: Joh Ahearne (Dalek). Also behind the wonderful vampire series Ultraviolet. Track it down if you can.
Favourite writer: Steven Moffat. And (partly) Russell T. Davies for that blinding two-parter at the end. Woo!
Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series: The best thing they did was to do it! And the publicity has been amazing. The worst thing was the 'Next Time on...', which ruined the big surprise on more then one occasion. I know that's what it's for, but they could have been done better.
Sum up the last 13 weeks in less than 25 words: An amazing revival that few thought possible. Can't wait for the Christmas special!

6. Best line of Doctor dialogue: "D'you know like we were saying, about the Earth revolving? It's like when you're a kid, the first time they tell you that the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it 'cause everything looks like it's standing still? I can feel it. The turn of the earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour, and I can *feel* it. We're falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go... That's who I am. Now forget me, Rose Tyler. Go home."

16. Worst special effect: The test tube disolving into the Nestene Consciousness.
17. Favourite director: Joe Aherne
18. Favourite writer: Paul Cornell
19. Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series: The best thing was throwing everything that could at promoting the series (understandable because of the investiment) then not screwing things up by tossing it around the schedule unless it was absolutely necessary. Part of the reason that it was a success was that people knew when it was going to be on. The absolute worse thing was messing up Chris's departure. We should not have known about it until last night -- some careful handling and it could have been amazing...

1. Favourite episode: "Bad Wolf"
2. Least favourite episode: "Aliens of London"
3. Favourite supporting actor (male): Mickey / Noel Clark. I really liked Mickey and Clark did a great job of playing him. He was a coward, but he admitted it, but when it really counted, he stepped up.
4. Favourite supporting actor (female): I liked Lynda / Jo Joyner. She was sweet. More than that, I think she would have made a really good companion had she been kept on board instead of sucked out into space.
5. Least favourite supporting actor: Adam / Bruno Langley. Not that he was a bad actor, just that the character annoyed me.
6. Best line of Doctor dialogue: For the dramatic, I'd have to say that it was Christopher Eccleston's last words as the Doctor. "Rose, before I go, I just wanna tell you you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic! But you know what? So was I."
7. Best line of dialogue (non-Doctor): I'm gonna cop out and say that there were too many good lines to pick one.
8. Worst line of dialogue (anyone): When the two Bad Wolf technicians are bantering on while the Daleks are coming in "The Parting of the Ways."
"I'm only here cuz of you. I joined the program because you were on it." "Am I supposed to say 'when this is all over and if we're still alive maybe we should go for a drink'?" "That'd be nice." "Yeah, well, tough."
It just seemed tacked on.
9. Best scene or sequence: When the Doctor was standing at the pulpit, giving orders on what to do and how to survive in "Father's Day."
10. Best singular image from series: When the Doctor throws the nanogenes at the zombies in "The Doctor Dances."
11. Funniest moment or dialogue: The Doctor yelling at the zombies "Go to your room!" Of course, there were many, many more.
12. Scariest moment: The Dalek Emperor creeps me out.
13: Saddest moment: When Rose was "killed" by Anne Robinson.
14. Bit that made the least sense or you wished they'd cut: As for making the least amount of sense, Rose's transformation in "The Parting of the Ways." There's nothing at all that I wished they had cut.
15. Best special effect: The sun shields being raised and the sheer solar power ripping apart the rooms in "The End of the World."
16. Worst special effect: The Jagrafess. Too over the top and far too silly to be frightening.
17. Favourite director: Joe Ahearne, for the last two episodes.
18. Favourite writer: Steven Moffat, for "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances."
19. Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series: The best thing was, of course, bringing it back. The worst was letting us know who's going to be coming back and who won't.
20. Sum up the last 13 weeks in less than 25 words: I'll do it in one, horribly-cliched-by-now word: "FANTASTIC!"

1. Favourite episode:
‘Dalek’: simply the most thrilling, fan-pleasing episode of the whole lot. And as moving as new ‘Who’ is likely to get.
2. Least favourite episode:
On the basis of expectation, ‘Rose’ - which I thought was about as misguided and underwhelming a pilot as you could imagine. On the basis of quality, well…sorry, you said just the one choice for each category, didn’t you? Oh well, for those that wondered the other was also directed by Keith Boak.
3. Favourite supporting actor (male):
Regular or non-regular? Assuming you accept this loophole, for regular I’d have John Barrowman’s Captain Jack, hands down. For irregular, how about Corey Johnson’s ‘King of the Internet’ Henry van Statten from ‘Dalek’.
4. Favourite supporting actor (female):
Sorry to preach to the choir here, but wasn’t Florence Hoath from ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’ simply marvellous?
5. Least favourite supporting actor:
Mickey. Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
6. Best line of Doctor dialogue:
Shouldn’t there be a separate category for just Steven Moffatt’s episodes? So many to choose from, but I’ll go for ‘This time, everybody lives’ from TDD for its sheer joie-de-vivre.
7. Best line of dialogue (non-Doctor):
‘That’s what they do with non-entities round here, they promote them’ (Simon Pegg’s Editor from ‘The Long Game’)
8. Worst line of dialogue (anyone):
Can anything beat Margaret Slitheen’s ‘Shaking my booty’ travesty from ‘Aliens in London’?
9. Best scene or sequence:
The spine-tingling reveal of the Dalek in its cell from ‘Dalek’.
10. Best singular image from series:
A TARDIS-tripping Rose playing at God from ‘The Parting of the Ways’
11. Funniest moment or dialogue:
The Doctor sifting through a stack of guns in ‘Dalek’, dismissing one as a hairdryer. When in the old days, it probably would have been!
12. Scariest moment:
Richard Wilson gets a bad case of gasmask-enteritis.
13: Saddest moment:
Again, surely a separate category for ‘The Parting of the Ways’ is required? But I’d still go for that Dalek’s first glimpse of sunlight in ‘Dalek’.
14. Bit that made the least sense or you wished they'd cut:
Bad Wolf.
15. Best special effect:
The one that wasn’t - the Doctor gets back to the TARDIS in ‘Father’s Day’ to find it’s just a Police Box.
16. Worst special effect:
CGI Slitheen - stick to the rubber suits, guys!
17. Favourite director:
Joe Ahearne. Thank God James Hawes is still on board for next year.
18. Favourite writer:
Robert Shearman.
19. Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series:
Best: Giving it a real chance by letting people with talent, passion and an understanding of the show do what they like, how they like with the budget to match their vision.
Worst: Destroying what could have been one of the biggest surprises in TV history by panicking when the Sun got hold of that ‘Eccleston Quits’ rumour.
20. Sum up the last 13 weeks in less than 25 words:
Simply the chance to prove that my childhood faith in the show remains undiminished. What the hell am I going to do now on Saturdays?

20. Sum up the last 13 weeks in less than 25 words:
Escapism, healing, exciting, life-affirming, kind spirited, cosmic, even when it was silly it was essential. Only decent TV Show today.

12. Scariest moment: The "empty child" at the door and Nancy begging the Doctor not to open it. Absolutely petrifying, nightmare stuff.
13: Saddest moment: Rose's dad's final scenes.
14. Bit that made the least sense or you wished they'd cut: Enough with the farting, we get it!
15. Best special effect: The regeneration. Done right for once.
16. Worst special effect: CG slitheen--making them so fast it made no sense that they then couldn't catch their prey.
17. Favourite director: James Hawes
18. Favourite writer: Steven Moffatt
19. Best and Worst thing the BBC did in relation to this series: Best: Realizing that the show needed a real budget. Worst: Those bloody trailers!
